Cherubini Fugue in F Major

“Hudson” by Jim Klein

Arranged and Edited by Andrew Dahlke

A Compact Disc album consisting of two sets of pieces: Snakes and Cakes and Mary’s Suite. inspired by Jim Klein’s painting Hudson, composer Ian Jamison conceived a structural diagram (see below), according to which he designed Snakes and Cakes as a four-voice, contrapuntal work. Once the key and tempo was predetermined for each piece, each of the four voices was improvised and recorded by Jim one at a time, without hearing any of the previously recorded material. Andrew then arranged and edited the four voices, producing compositions entirely by using Pro Tools digital audio software. The material for each song in Mary’s Suite was improvised by Jim in a more traditional, holistic manner, and arranged and edited by Andrew in Pro Tools.
